Job Title: Tax Manager – Alternative Investments

Reports To: Senior Tax Manager(s), Partner(s)

Summary: Responsible for managing tax reporting and compliance within an organization. Ensures tax returns are completed and accurate to minimize tax obligations. Responsible for tax planning in preparation for future filings.  Takes an active role in the firm’s business and practice development activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mentor, supervise and train seniors and staff through counsel, guidance and coaching
  • Work with staff to ensure individual and business tax returns are completed correctly and by required deadlines
  • Manage IRS and state tax audit examinations and work with partners to resolution
  • Managers are required to manage and review several projects and tasks simultaneously including delegating various projects to tax preparers as necessary.  Managers are expected to initiate internal communication regarding status of tasks, relevant technical issues discovered, status of workload, and expected delivery dates
  • Delegate work as appropriate and hold staff and seniors accountable for the work that has been delegated to them
  • Responsible for technical review of tax compliance and consulting engagements for all assigned clients to ensure quality and accuracy
  • Maintain accuracy and completeness of due date control system on all assigned clients
  • Proactively address tax issues and conduct appropriate research regarding client’s tax issues in order to resolve them
  • Review complex individual, trust, partnership, and S & C Corporation tax returns and state income tax returns
  • Proficient in various software applications including ProSystem fx Engagement, Practice, XCM, and online research services
  • Manage Client accounts including billing, fee analysis and new service development
  • Develop strong client relationships and maintain regular proactive contact to anticipate and address client concerns and escalating problems as they arise
  • Conduct performance reviews and update short-term goals of staff semi-annually or more frequently if necessary
  • Provide high-quality and proactive tax service and retain existing clients
  • Assist to insure that compliance with Circular 230, AICPA Statements of Standards, and Board of Accountancy and other legal and regulatory requirements is maintained
  • Qualifications:
  • CPA licensure or licensed attorney
  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year College or university
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Extensive knowledge of tax research sources
  • Strong knowledge of Internal Revenue Code and regulations, various tax forms and their interrelationships, return filing requirements and due dates
  • Four to eight years related experience and / or training

Supervisory Responsibilities: 
Manages Tax Supervisors, Senior Tax Associates, Tax Associates and Tax Interns. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
