Job Title: Senior Audit Associate

Reports To: Supervisor(s), Manager(s), Partner(s)

Summary: The Senior Audit Associate is responsible for developing, implementing and managing audit engagements. The Senior Audit Associate will work with the client to ensure the various components of the audit engagement are performed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality
  • Run client engagements from start to finish, which includes planning, executing, directing, and completing financial audits and managing to budget
  • Supervise, train, and mentor associates and interns on audit process and assess performance of staff for engagement reviews
  • Research and analyze financial statements and audit-related issues utilizing electronic databases, and employ audit software to review and compile financial information
  • Proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve audit-related problems, and make recommendations for business and process improvements
  • Gain comprehensive understanding of client operations, processes, and business objectives and utilize that knowledge on engagements
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with staff members of the firm
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Personal and Professional Development:

  • Understand Richey May and its service lines and actively assess/present ways to apply knowledge and services
  • Willingness to travel
  • Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis
  • Diligently work towards CPA licensure if not already licensed


  • Attained a Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university
  • Two years related experience and/or training
  • Certified Public Accounting license or working toward licensure
  • Demonstrated computer skills and experience with accounting software
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines


  • In-charge non-complex audits, 401ks, and special projects and management multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Begin to train and provide on the job guidance to associates
  • Communication: actively work to prioritize and communicate status of assignments; commit to and deliver on-time and within budget; propose solutions to issues encountered
  • Able to audit: Perform all audit procedures on non-complex audits and are familiar with all facets of 401k audits
  • Business development/networking- attend quarterly strategically selected networking or business development events during the year
  • Proactive career development- such as soliciting feedback, actively seeking advice through direct report tree, actively planning and maintaining CPE
  • Begin to develop client relationships

  • Positive Can-do attitude – willingness to take on and seek out tasks to help the team
  • Task/deadline oriented- lead by example by making client work a priority
  • Ownership of work- follow through to the end and communication of status, issues, etc.
  • 2300 hours total per year; 1650 charge hours per year.  Busy season: 750 charge hours (approx. 65 hours per week).  Non-busy season: Summer 50-75 and Fall 90-100 charge hours per month
  • Travel Required – 25% of total yearly hours with up to 8 weeks during busy season
